Fresh Ideas for Job Search, Managing Your Career, and Starting a Business

After reading the book, Where Good Ideas Come From, I'm convinced that fresh ideas come from showing up in new places. (BTW–I highly recommend the book.)

Job search If you are in Denver, join me on February 10 at 6pm, for "To the Rescue! Smart Strategies for Job Seekers." I'll moderate a panel of experts who will help you develop smart strategies for your search–including the biggest mistakes to avoid when interviewing for the C-suite, how to write a cover letter that gets results, and ways to enhance your efforts using social media. Our panelists range from a nationally syndicated career columnist to a social media insider/personal branding strategist to a principal at an executive search firm who was also part of Governor Hickenlooper's transition team.  With this kind of talent, you won't hear the tired advice that is so often associated with a job search. One of the best parts of the evening: the hot seat. I'll invite someone from the audience to come to the front of the room, to describe their particular situation–what type of job they are looking for, their background, what they've done so far. I'll then ask our panelists to provide specific advice that can be acted upon in the next week.  We'll do as many of these hot seats as time allows.

This event is sponsored by the Northwestern Club of Colorado and is open to the public.

 Credentials

Are you a "digital immigrant"?  If so, I'll be speaking on February 9 at the University of Colorado Leeds School of Business on the topic of "SHIFT! The Impact of Social Media on Your Career". Many of you may have guessed that credentials, competence, and experience count for a lot less these days.  But if not that, then what? Join me to find out….

This free one-hour talk is open to the public and starts at 5pm. Location is 955 Regent Drive, Koelbel S-330, Boulder, CO.  Parking is available in a lot directly south of the building.

And finally, if you are starting a business, here's a novel way to publicize it…..

Some of you may recognize this project as similar to one that I blogged about last year–a family's gingerbread creation that is a holiday tradition, as well as a wonderful illustration of teamwork and imagination.
