Taking the Time to Be Nice

I recently ordered online a birthday gift for my son. In the order form, there was a field for company name. I put in "self-employed ."  A few minutes after submitting my order, I received this email from the owner of the company:

Hi there,

I noticed you filled in Self Employed for company name (congratulations by the way), this field is generally to let UPS know when not to charge the Residential Surcharge, and that it’s going to be delivered to a Commercial Address. Most people don’t know this, heck I didn’t know that until I got into this business

Unfortunately, UPS will come after us for the residential surcharge correction, and charge us a fee at the same time (it’s about 2.50 extra when they’re done with us) So I thought I would pass on that tid-bit of knowledge, for the future. Some companies would come after you for that, but we’re not heartless, we’re just going to ship it USPS Priority which is a tad bit cheaper anyways, and you’ll get it faster.

Just thought you would like to know.

It probably took the owner all of five minutes to write the email and a few extra bucks to create a loyal customer. She went on to email me two more times, once to estimate delivery time, knowing that this was a birthday gift and once to tell me the package had been just shipped. I’ll be back. Many thanks to Teresa at topshelfgames.net.
