I received a post card in the mail from a prominent realtor in my area. The realtor was sponsoring a talk, given by a colleague who is a consultant, author and speaker, on finding your purpose. The venue was a local loft development where sales of units are ongoing.
My reaction? Confusion. How does this realtor and venue complement the speaker’s brand? How does this speaker complement the realtor’s brand? It seemed to be an odd convergence of industries and business purposes. Cross-selling at the risk of jarring the sensitivities of both target markets.
I’ve been thinking alot about branding lately. This post card has made me think even more deeply–what I do and who I collaborate with that reinforces my brand, what I do and who I hang out with that undermines my brand.
What is your brand and how are you building it?
