I hope people aren’t tired of me talking about Seth Godin’s posts. It’s just that I realize he’s my filter for interesting things in the world that are well-packaged and well-articulated. I’m seeing how he leads me to new bloggers and websites, as well as the good stuff that you see after reading a few chapters of a favorite author. The lens he uses to look at the world is one that I like to tap into.
Call me lazy, but if I want to find three new ideas or sources of good info, I go to Seth’s blog. He does the work for me of sifting through all the non-relevant, re-hashed, non-illuminating writing that people try to pass off as something worth reading. (Okay, maybe that was a bit harsh, but you have to admit there are a lot of ezines, blogs, and other digitized info that’s just taking up bits and bytes without any real value.)
I hope that in some way, I’m doing the same for readers of this blog.
A few new things I gleaned from reading Seth’s blog:
• An interesting site, www.changethis.com, has well-written essays on topics from blogging to maintaining balance to consumer behavior. This site is picky about what it publishes and it shows in the quality of the articles.
• Great riff on advice for budding authors. Among the gems: Pay for an editor. Don’t try to sell your book to everyone. Writing a book is about the experience of clarifying your thinking and working to spread your ideas with authority.
• Seth was interviewed by Guy Kawasaki, another superstar when it comes to high intellect, interesting lenses, and savvy business building. He talks about everything from how books are the new t-shirts to five things that have enabled his success to why he works at being incompetent (yes, you read that right, INcompetent.)
Enjoy.
