Aiming High

Seth Godin has a great post about the forces of mediocrity. It struck a chord with me as I continue to look at the end game for ABV. What’s the great result that someone can aim for when they undertake this journey?  I’m in the process of writing a biz plan for ABV and one of the statements I put in the executive summary (which Guy Kawasaki says is really the most important part of any biz plan) is this:

"Remarkable individual wisdom leading to lasting change for a system."

After writing this, I wondered if I had aimed too high. Gremlin voices in my head were telling me that it was a tall order. To think that one individual’s wisdom could lead to changing the world in some significant way. System could be discipline, company, organization. World as system is what intrigues me.

After reading Seth’s post, I realized that resistance is part of the journey. And that those who are attracted to ABV should be aiming to change a system, some part of their world. Otherwise, why bother?

It’s like walking five miles to the store to buy a pack of gum. Shoot. If I’m going to walk five miles, I want 3 pints of Haagen Daz, a couple of Odwallas, and a few deli items from Whole Foods. Throw in some Belgian chocolate.

I could be a full-time blogger. It’s that enjoyable to learn and think and create….
