I’ve been spending alot of time on understanding how technology, communities, and remarkable wisdom come together. Along the way, I’ve come across some great resources that you may be interested in as well:
- Blogging Heroes by Michael Banks. Subtitle is “Interviews with 30 of the World’s Top Bloggers.” A fascinating look at what makes for a successful blog and the diverse ways in which bloggers go about their business. You’ll also get an overview of the different types of blogs that are playing a role in shaping the blogosphere. My favorite blog that was highlighted in the book is PostSecret, www.postsecret.com. It’s a testimonial to our complexity as human beings and a celebration of our humanity. One of the interviews I enjoyed most was with Chris Anderson, of Long Tail fame.
- The New Rules of Marketing and PR by David Meerman Scott. This book is a complement to Seth Godin’s concept of permission marketing. Scott nails it on how connecting with your audience is about authentic dialogue, thought leadership, and building a community. The days of interrupt marketing and one-way blasts are gone.
- Jeremiah’s Owyang’s blog, Web Strategy by Jeremiah. This blog is a great resource for learning about the use of social networking tools for business, as well as thoughtful discussions on how to use web-based tools in general to connect with your audience. Jeremiah’s postings run the gamut, from strategy to new players in the game to nuts and bolts of products. What I enjoy is both the breadth and depth of topics, discussed in layman’s terms.
