I’ve been doing a lot of traveling this fall–family wedding, client gigs, training, conference–and one of the joys I’ve discovered is having an iPod while on the road. I’ve taken a liking to listening to Norah Jones’ CD, Feels Like Home. It’s varied enough in mood and tempo to accompany me through the different experiences associated with flying.
"Sunrise" kept me happy while going through the lengthy security lines at Denver International Airport on a Monday morning. I would have been even happier if I could have danced while moving through the line but the somber faces of my fellow travelers discouraged that.
"Creepin’ In" got me moving when I landed at an the Portland, Maine airport at 11pm, after a day of cancelled flights and re-routed connections. It also held me in good stead when I landed at DIA at midnight.
"Above Ground" works as the plane is taking off. The somberness is appropriate when I’m thinking about tons of steel and human flesh trying to get off the ground. Today, it’s a normal occurence through the wonders of technology, but quite a feat when you really think about it.
"Humble Me" is my lullaby when I’m ready to doze off, after the beverage carts have come around.
"Toes" proclaims that I have landed and is the audio track as I wait to get off the plane, my fellow passengers in various body positions depending on who is nearest the aisle. I keep wanting to sing "My toes touch the ground" instead of the real lyrics, "My toes touch the water."
"In the Morning" gives me the right mojo as I’m trekking to the baggage claim, walking on the moving sidewalks to get me there even faster.
"Those Sweet Words" is good just about anytime–in the waiting area, at 30,000 feet, or anywhere in between.
