Every Sunday night, I re-connect with interesting women, talking about what they are most passionate about. No, it's not a book club. It's a "hold me accountable to blog" club.
It started off as a way for a friend and I to help each other get into a once a week blogging routine, as life became more hectic. Writers know that writing does more for the writer than it does for the reader. Writing is catharsis, meditation, self-coaching, and creative expression, all wrapped into one activity. It is intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. And while it may be hard work, it is also immensely satisfying. Holding each other accountable to this weekly time alone is a gift. Photo by Caitlinator
The club has grown to four members. We blog about distinctly different topics, while holding down a day job that may or may not be related. The gift for me has not only been the nudge to blog each week (and sometimes, even a nudge is not enough.) It has been seeing pure passion come through in each person's writing, and seeing my fellow bloggers shine as a result. We don't get enough of that in our daily life.
One woman is an expert on suicide prevention and speaks regularly on the topic at conferences. Another is a thought leader in the use of social media to engage students and alumni at universities. Another is focused on personal finance for Gen Y and Gen X. Blogging is the perfect channel for expanding our individual voices.
In our Sunday night emails, we provide the link to what we've just published or write a few words about the posting we are working on. Or we cop to life getting in the way of blogging. We commiserate, add commentary, and give reactions to each others' writing. It is my once-a-week fix of being with a group of women (virtually) who appreciate writing, for it's own sake. What part of you could use a Sunday night club? And what's stopping you from getting one started?
