I’ve had some wonderful email exchanges as a result of this project. With one person, she revealed that she does "end of life" work, helping individuals have the intimate conversations on dying and death that is part of the transition. To which I replied:
"Thank you for sharing more of what you do. This is a side project for me and I can’t imagine doing this as part of my work on a regular basis."
Her reply pointed to the need for individuals to learn to serve when faced with a situation of loss in a community, even if it’s something that we cannot do all the time. What was most striking was her last paragraph:
"Unsupported and Unprocessed Grief has been measured to be the most costly challenge to productivity at work, because we live in a society that does not know how to appreciate and respect it."
This project continues to offer up gems of wisdom.
