25 Random Thoughts

Random lightsRiffing off of the recent meme on "25 Random Things About Me," and not having a clear idea of what I wanted to blog about but knowing that much has gone on since I last posted, I'm trying out "25 Random Thoughts." Maybe this is the antidote to the blogger's version of writer's block. Here goes:

  1. When was bread invented and could someone live on bread (and water) alone?
  2. I've heard stories of three different people living with multiple sclerosis in the last 24
hours. Is MS the new cancer? In any case, it makes me aware of how lucky I am that chronic illness is not a part of my everyday life. Nor is it for anyone close to me.
  3. Some of the best humor is both biting and sarcastic. I hope this doesn't make me a bad person.
  4. My challenge, and that of every small business, is to reinvent to remain relevant. What sold last year isn't what will sell this year.
  5. Hard times is the enemy of complacency. There is good news after all.
  6. Bridge with colors
Using both sides of the brain continues to be the competitive edge in the marketplace. Engineers are being laid off while people who help engineers write more engaging, readable, creative proposals are being hired.
  7. We can censor our words but we can't censor our art.  Ask someone to
create, using visual art forms, and they will reveal who they are.
  8. You can tell a lot about someone by how they talk to their spouse (or child or parent.)
  9. February in Colorado is nowhere near as long as February in the Midwest.
  10. Technology is so cheap that the cost of instantaneously documenting and distributing one's thoughts in full color and motion, to thousands of people, is approaching zero. What's possible now?
  11. Great content, fueled by passion and following one's inner voice, continues to be what wins out.
  12. Never underestimate the power of good intentions combined with unconventional ways. One person can make a difference.
  13. Subway signs
Everyone has a story of hardship from their past. Some people will become humble and grateful. Others will become resentful and bitter. What causes a person to choose one over the other?
  14. Planning without doing is worse than doing without planning. No one ever changed their destiny by planning without doing. Plenty of people have gotten remarkable results by doing without planning. (BTW–A great book on this is Improv Wisdom: Don't Prepare, Just Show Up.)
  15. Some of my best work comes when I don't think but rather feel.
  16. There are no accidents.
  17. If you spend a weekend with a friend and you like them more at the end of the weekend than the beginning, you've got a friend for life.
  18. During a home remodel, you quickly learn the value of the saying, "Measure twice, cut once."
  19. The best conversations happen early in the morning and late at night.
  20. Crying foul is a way to distract ourselves from reality and escape into the world of excuses. The world is not fair. Get over it.
  21. Cat curled upIntolerance and intellectual laziness often go hand in hand.
  22. Cats have an amazing ability to stretch, curl, jump, pounce and do whatever else they need to do, physically, to meet both their needs and desires. Everyday living is yoga for cats.
  23. People become better writers when they are asked to write about their lives in an authentic way.
  24. Speaking from experience as a client, the best time to have a coach is when you think you can't afford one.
  25. Creativity is fueled by our love affair with life.
