As I was cleaning my 12-year old son’s room, I noticed a faded piece of paper thumbtacked to the wall above the bed. Here’s what was written in faded pencil:

Subject: 12 Rules to Live By
- Always tell the truth.
- Treat others as you would like to be treated.
- Whatever you choose to do, do it well.
- Figure out what interests you the most, and make that your life’s work.
- Be frugal. Avoid debt. Save some money and invest prudently. Always have some ready cash.
- Never stop learning.
- Maintain your health.
- Learn to relax. Learn to laugh.
- Look out for yourself. No one else will (except for your parents).
- Have a few good friends. Make sure they are of excellent character.
- Listen more than you talk.
- Have fun!
These are good "rules" for any age and advice that stands the test of time…..
