Want some savvy advice on managing your career by paying attention to your personal brand? Listen in on my interview with Catherine Kaputa, author of the book, U R a Brand. This is the most recent of the interviews that I did with Northwestern University alumni authors on career development.
Catherine’s book won the Benjamin Franklin Award, 2007 Winner in Career Books and it’s easy to see why. Her book not only has plenty of good advice that’s often overlooked in career coaching circles (e.g., network with a wide group of people, not just the heavy hitters) but she also gives specific case studies that bring her tips into the world of real results.
Catherine brings 20 years of experience in advertising along with her own story of using branding principles to reinvent herself, change careers (she has an advanced degree in Japanese art and studied in Japan before deciding to go into advertising), and navigate corporate life. She nails down the relevant concepts succinctly in the book and then helps the readers expand on the idea with concrete exercises.
Catherine will be one of the speakers at a "personal branding telesummit," aptly named A Brand You World, on November 8. (BTW–this free summit consists of 12 hours of fabulous speakers you can access from the comfort of your home or office. In addition to Catherine, you can hear a couple of my other favorites, Guy Kawasaki and William Arruda.)
Enjoy the book, interview, telesummit, and put Catherine’s wisdom to work in your career.
I’m a BIG fan of Catherine Kaputa since I read her book U R a Brand. I happened on the book while in an airport bookstore doing one of my media tours promoting our products. The timing was perfect as I had just started my blog and was really trying hard to figure out how best to put myself into it as well as discuss the topics I cover. Long story short, Catherine’s book has had a big influence and the timing couldn’t have been better. I really appreciate it when thought leaders mentor others with such valuable information.
Thanks to both of you, Carol and Catherine!

Thanks, Mitchell, for that feedback on how Catherine’s book has impacted you. Catherine has indeed been very generous with sharing her wisdom. She has spoken at several Northwestern University alumni events, always with an enthusiastic response to her message.
