I heard from a friend that Dan Pink, author of A WHOLE NEW MIND, and his family have temporarily moved to Japan. She pointed me to his site for more info.
At Dan’s site, I discovered several great posts on how design of very ordinary things (garbage cans, ice cream cones, and subway signs) make life easier. (For fellow bloggers, there’s no permalink on Dan’s site to provide a link to specific postings, so you’ll need to scroll down to see the posts.) Complete with photos to illustrate, Dan opens up the lens for me on looking for good design. And how things could be so much easier with a bit of design up front.
I can’t wait to see what else he learns while he’s there.
