Shaping Your Career to Be in Demand

Next month, I’ll be flying to Chicago to interview Daniel Pink on the campus of Northwestern University.  I first blogged about Pink’s book, A WHOLE NEW MIND, last fall, so this is a bit of a dream come true. The topic of the interview will be "Shaping Your Career to Be in Demand" or in other words, how do you apply the concepts from Pink’s book to create your own sweet spot in making a living? We’ll look at the Six Senses that define what Pink calls "The Conceptual Age"–Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, and Meaning.

Here’s where you come in.  Email me, carol@carolrossandassociates.com, your questions on A WHOLE NEW MIND, on applying the Six Senses to your career, or anything else that this posting sparks. I’ll have two hours with Dan to fire questions at him and get his take on applying the intuitive right brain to creating wildly successful businesses and careers.

The Northwestern Alumni Association will be taping the interview and then later offering it up on their website. I’ll announce on this blog when the interview will be available for listening.

Some of you may be wondering how I got this gig. Pink and I are both Northwestern grads. I’d like to say that we graduated in the same decade but can’t. (Yes, I still think of myself at times as a young co-ed but the gray hairs give me away.) I connected up with the director of the Northwestern Alumni Association last spring and since they had just started webinars for alums on careers, I put two and two together. I go back to the idea of asking for what you want. It seems to be working for me….
