You Can’t Force a Miracle

I recently talked with my friend, Tama Kieves. Tama is a wonderfully honest writer–something I really admire.

She is the author of the book, quot;THIS TIME I DANCE! Creating the Work You Love." Tama started off as a Harvard Law School grad, working for a law firm in Denver, and took the leap of faith to carve out her own path–one that is about teaching and inspiring others to find work they love.  As Tama describes it, she "left her corporate life to discover her buried creative self and develop the livelihood that stirred her soul and paid the bills."

It took her 12 years to write the book, which she self-published. Through word-of-mouth sales and a little bit of luck, a publishing house, Tarcher/Penguin, picked it up a few years ago.  That would be a great story in itself. But the kicker is that her publisher is doing a re-launch of the book next month –new cover, new additions to the book, new book tour. Her publisher felt that book had not reached its potential in terms of audience and thus, the re-launch. Tama’s agent says this is practically unheard of in the publishing business. In Tama’s words, "You couldn’t plan this kind of thing if you tried."  You can’t force a miracle. It just happens.

If you haven’t already read the book, I highly recommend it. It is a comfortable and honest companion on the journey to more rewarding work. Here’s a marketing blurb about the book:

"If you’ve ever wanted your own personal mentor to champion your wildest dreams, your support system has finally arrived. "This Time I Dance!" is an "in-the-trenches" guidebook to illuminate and inspire every step of your amazing journey. With warmth, honesty, and humor, Kieves explores the fears and doubts that often paralyze us and prevent us from making choices that can enlarge our life, and shares her own story of how she broke free into her own destiny. And with her personal and practical stories of overcoming insecurities, you will discover and trust the unparalleled power of your own true work in this world. "Trust the journey", Kieves tells us, and in "This Time I Dance!" she shows us how to do that—and how to live our lives from love instead of fear."

Check out Tama’s website for more info and look for her book to appear in the bookstores on September 7. You can also pre-order on Amazon.
