Meatball Sundae and Johnny Bunko

Two of the blogs that I read on a consistent basis are ones written by Seth Godin and Daniel Pink.  They were both authors before starting a blog. I enjoy their posts and it’s a treat when they come out with a new book. Both have new books which I recommend, for different reasons:

  • Meatball Sundae by Seth Godin. While this is touted as a marketing book, it’s much more than that. Godin cites 14 trends that are changing how businesses need to operate to thrive. It’s one of those "aha" books that explains "the way the world is going." Much of what Godin talks about are trends that are core to my newest venture, A Bigger Voice. More in-depth reviews of the book are here and here. A transcript of an interview last fall with Godin about the book is here.

BONUS: Godin is hosting a hour-long call, talking about the concepts in the book on April 9 at noon PT. If you’ve already bought the book, the call is free. If you haven’t already bought the book, it’s 99 cents with the purchase of the book. Click here for more details. It’s a golden opportunity to hear Godin speak.

  • The Adventures of Johnny Bunko by Daniel Pink. Like Godin, Dan Pink is one of those innovative thinkers who knows how to take what he sees in the world and not just interpret, but create from it. I’ve mentioned Pink many times related to his book, A Whole New Mind. His newest book breaks the mold for what one expects from a book on how to manage your career–in the form of manga.

I was fascinated by this link that Pink sent me for a promo for the book, which will be released on Monday, April 7.  The message works because form, content, and style are all aligned with the intended audience (twenty-somethings.) The book, which can be previewed with a downloadable pdf, is the same. It’s a beautiful example of the concepts that Godin preaches–being remarkable, telling stories, and the triumph of big ideas. I talk more about this on my blog, A Bigger Voice, using Johnny Bunko as a case study for how to have a bigger voice in today’s world.

Get reading, and get smart.
