At the end of a long day, in meditation, I asked a higher power for advice on situations in my life that were troubling.
What I heard was this: “Choose love.”
When my striver kicks in and I find myself struggling to “fix” or do something the “right” way, I choose love. I have compassion for the part of me that thinks she still needs to prove herself.
I choose love, to give grace, to ask for help and accept it.
When I feel the heartbreak of another tragedy on the news, I choose love. I ask my soul to be with me in my despair and to comfort the part of me that is afraid.
In a world filled with fear and anxiety, rage and righteousness, I choose love.
When a friend or family member lashes out because they are unhappy, I choose love. I sense the pain of a disappointed dream that is underneath the complaint and imagine a healing balm for their wound.
This is not easy to do. In fact, it’s really hard.
Choosing love requires faith, generosity, and trust. It requires integrity to choose love, when it can be sooooo much easier to choose hatred, martyr, shame, or guilt.
Choosing love is an act of courage.
What helps me choose love? Being on the spiritual path.
I feel the abundance of love. Love is not scarce. It’s all around.

I am a spiritual being, having a human experience. And so are you, even if you may not think of yourself as spiritually oriented. Beyond the masks of a personality, we each have a soul and a higher self that is guiding us, with purpose, through good and bad times.
There are no coincidences, only winks from a higher power, signaling, “You are not alone.”
This is a truth that I invite you to experience for yourself.
