How Poetry Nourishes Me
November 14, 2008
Several years ago, I asked my niece, Joanna, who was in a graduate program for poetry, what appealed to her about this form of writing. She replied, "I like the density–how you can convey so much in so few words."
Joanna now teaches at a midwestern university, while continuing to be a freelance writer. Recently, I received a link to her most recently published poem, Remembering Song. In reading this, I was reminded about the need to replenish my imagination and sense of imagery.
Whether it’s poetry or painting or music or a sci fi thriller, we all need to periodically go back to the well and fill up again. How do you nourish your imagination?
