Yep, you read that right. Since Sarbanes-Oxley was adopted in 2002, there’s been an increasing demand for accountants. And how are accounting firms attracting new recruits? Through stories.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Deloitte and Touche, one of the Big Four accounting firms, is asking "employees to make short videos about their experiences at the company." 400 have been made and the best 14 will be posted on YouTube and used for campus recruiting.
When I was a campus recruiter for Avaya, I often thought that interviewees don’t want to hear a recap of what’s in the company brochure. They want to meet the real people that work at a company. Likewise, interviewers don’t want to hear a recap of what’s on the resume. They want to learn who that person on the other side of the desk is–the one their friends and family know. Recruiters like Deloitte and Touche are headed in the right direction with the videos–if they rein in the natural tendency to polish the end product.
